About Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore Campus

Nestled at the foothills of the Western Ghats, the beautiful 400-acre residential Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus offers a peaceful, world-class academic environment perfectly suited for international exchange and research collaboration. Founded in 1994 as a single engineering school in Ettimadai with just 120 students and 13 teachers, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has transformed into a premier, multi-campus university system spanning six Indian states. Today, it hosts over 31,000 students and 2,500 faculty members across 300+ undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes.
Often described as a lush green oasis, the Coimbatore campus is a testament to dedicated afforestation and eco-friendly conservation over the past decades. Key environmental highlights include:
- Zero-Chemical Water Recycling: All wastewater from campus hostels, faculty quarters, and academic blocks is biologically treated using Effective Microorganisms (EM) without any harsh chemicals.
- Organic Practices: The campus relies entirely on on-site vermicomposting for organic fertilizers and has strictly avoided chemical pesticides since its inception.
- Flora & Fauna: The tranquil environment, free from urban pollution and city bustle, serves as a natural sanctuary for diverse exotic birds, including orioles, bulbuls, bee eaters, hornbills, and resident peacocks and parrots.
